Illustrated by the great Eric Carle, the book Small Circus (1975) made a strong impression on this young circus fan. Thrills and beauty across every page:
So much is happening and yet the page feels open and uncluttered. Gorgeous! Young Rex imagined the backstories of every character.
Eric Carle went on to write and illustrate more than 70 books, including Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?; The Grouchy Ladybug; and most famously The Hungry Hungry Caterpillar.
His books have sold more than 170 million copies around the world.
“Are you coming to Nova Scotia anytime soon? My boyfriend loves the circus and we want to get married at the Big Top.”
— Louisa in Nova Scotia.
Dear Louisa,
We will be in Nova Scotia this autumn. BOOMPLE the Clown is an ordained minister, and he’d be happy to preside. Front row tickets are on me. Congrats!
Reminder: This segment is to ask a specific question of one performer. To discuss talents and training. Or get to know them behind-the-scenes. Kindly send questions (or any advice queries) to Questions@ringmasterrex.com.
In keeping with a children’s book theme, here’s Dr. Seuss to close out today’s edition of Sunday Stuff. This is from If I Ran The Circus, published in 1956.
Have a great week! May you always wander toward the wonder.
