Kim Richey, The Circus Song (Can’t Let Go)
“Fool me once, that’s okay,
Fool me twice, I like it that way … ”
This delightful song incorporates just enough circus-y sounds to add texture, but never leans too far into gimmickry.
The lyrics capture a feeling of discovery, of stepping beyond the rational or mundane.
The subtle tension in the vocals adds a sense of unease. Reminding us over and over again that she “can’t let go.”
Finally ending with a promise to do it once more, a promise proceeded with a brief laugh that tells us the decision was never really in question.
