Fluff-Ruffle of Feathers
Dear Ringmaster Rex,
My 5th grade son’s recent homework was about the names of units of animals. For example: a gaggle of geese, a pride of lions, etc. For vultures? The answer was a committee of vultures. Incorrect! Vultures are only classified as a committee whilst lingering on the ground. But they’re a kettle of vultures once in flight, and a wake of vultures as they pick at a carcass.
Why should they merit three terms? I do not know. But the fact remains — this is a fact! I’ve contacted his teacher, then escalated it to the principal. Now I have a call into the superintendent.
Signed,
Seriously Questioning Unsound And Worrying Knowledge
Dear SQUAWK,
This is an exception. Most animals groups have one term. The teacher probably taught one answer and expected the students to respond as it was taught.
